I fielded a 2nd Punic War Carthage army with 1 unit of Training Africans (19), 3 units of Celts (16), 2 units of skirmishers (10), 1 unit of Spanish Heavy Cav (6), 1 unit of Spanish light cav (6) and a Subordinate General. Chris fielded a Rise of Alexander list with 2 units of phalanx (21), 1 unit of skirmishers (10), 1 unit of elite light infantry, 1 unit of Companion cav and a general.
Chris and I play often & I was planning on using the Africans plus 2 units of Celts to take on the phalanx. The third Celt unit was deployed with 12 figures in the front row with a 4 figure second rank as sort of a super skirmisher force. Finally, the 2 units of skirmishers had the thankless task of delaying the Companion cav.
Chris was also testing out a new deployment. The 2 phalnax units were deployed 7 wide and only 3 deep. The extra broad units, combined with a nearby forest, prevented the Celts from getting the flank and resulted in Carthage taking multiple pikes to the face.
On a positive note, the super skirmishing Celts in the 12/4 formation were able to take on the Successor elite and may have ultimatly won the combat if not for the untimly arivial (and 6 wounds inflicted) of the Companion cav.
